Scope and Contents

The Scrapbooks series (1925-1980s) includes almost a dozen scrapbooks compiled by Barbara Maples during her lifetime. These bound and unbound albums document Maples' life from middle school through adulthood, chronicling her early education and her art and teaching career, in addition to trips and vacations to Mexico, Washington, D.C., New York, New Mexico, and Maples' work as a teacher at the Cimarroncita Camp. They contain significant correspondence, photographs, printed material, newspaper clippings, and ephemera. Noted items include various printed material relating to the New York art and theater scene (1930s-1940s) and the 1939 New York World's Fair, in addition to Native American life in New Mexico.
