Barbara Maples and Lucille Jeffries with art by Jeffries, c. 1940s
Scope and Contents
The Photographic Materials series (ca. 1950s-1993 and n.d.) includes photographs of Barbara Maples, her family, and friends. Many photographs were found loose in scrapbooks and were removed from them upon processing. The bulk of the photographs are of Maples and family or friends on vacation in New York, Colorado, or Mexico, or at the Cimarroncita Camp where Maples served as a counselor for several years. There are photographs of Maples throughout her life, and a significant amount of photographs relate to Maples' friend and fellow artist Lucille Jeffries. Included also in this series are photographs of the Maples homes and several early photographic processes, including tintypes and cartes des visites, presumably depicting Maples' ancestors. There is also a photograph of Maples' Siamese cat, Nicki, a frequent subject in her works of art.
