Scope and Contents
The Correspondence series (1853-1997) consists primarily of personal correspondence received by Barbara Maples, and also includes some correspondence sent by Maples to her mother, Lucile. Much of the correspondence consists of handmade cards sent to Maples by local artists. Some correspondents of note include: Mary Doyle, Evaline Sellors, Frances and Edward Bearden, Maggie and Merritt Mauzey, Coreen Spellman, and Ann Cushing [Gantz]. In addition, this series contains a diary of Wilhelm Hartick, Barbara Maples' grandfather, documenting his trip from Hamburg, Germany to New Orleans in 1853, letterhead from the Maples Pecan Company, owned by Barbara Maples' father, Buford, Barbara Maples' birth certificate, an obituary for Barbara's friend and fellow artist Lucille Jeffries, and newspaper clippings relating to Maples' family and friends
