Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection documents the Vasari Awards, an award granted to authors working in Texas on subjects in art history, sponsored by the Mayer Library from 1985-2008. The Librarian, later Director of Libraries managed the award process and the collection contains files from Donna Rhein, Amy Schaffner, Kay Marks, Allen Townsend, Darin Marshall and Jacqui Allen. The Libraries Advisory Committee, especially Jo Doremus (nee Cleaver) was also heavily involved in the awards during the early years; later Library Committee chairmen also participated including Shirley Pollock, Nancy Shutt, Caren Prothro and Daniel Boeckman. The Library Committe and Friends of the Library financially supported the award with annual donations, especially the Martin Tycher family.

The collection is arranged chronologically by year of award. Files contain press releases and invitations announcing award recipients; biographical information on recipient; correspondence with recipient and jurors, and submissions for consideration; internal planning memoranda; event (brunch, luncheon, reception, lecture, or dinner) planning with remarks; budget and purchase orders for event, honorarium, travel and medal; publicity; and photography.

Vasari Award recipients and jurors are noted in the box list. The date for each folder is the date of the award event; in one case when there was no event, the date of the press release announcing the recipient was used.
