Scope and Contents

This collection contains records related to the acquistion, installation and restoration of the Miguel Covarrubias mural Genesis in 1993. Records include correspondence, drawings, conservation information, and photography of the mural's original location, installation and conservation at the DMA, unveiling, and publicity photographys with sponsor Comerica Bank.

Records were co-located from three collections - Directors Office, Jay Gates; Hamon Expansion Records; and Photography collection - to facilitate reference and access. Each originating office is represented as a series, with an accrual comprising series four.

The Covarrubias Mural Records are a topical collection of material from different departmental sources related to Miguel Covarrubias's mural Genesis. The collection is arranged in four series based on the office of origin of the files.

Accruals

Accrual of additional photography and a small group of donated items were added to the collection and finding aid 19 May 2017.
