Abstract
In 1993, the museum marked the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Dallas Art Association with an exhibition featuring an extensive illustrated timeline held in the concourse. The exhibition was curated by Natalie "Schatzie" Lee. The photograph collection consists of the photographs used in the exhibition timeline and those that were collected and selected for possible use in the timeline, and therefore had written captions.
Arrangement
The collection of timeline photographs are arranged by decade, as they were in the exhibition timeline. Within each decade group - 1900s-1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s - which also function as series, photos are arranged in folders containing 12-15 photos, in order and described by the captions written for the exhibition timeline. Description of the photos uses the existing caption as Title with additional desciptive information on the content of the photograph supplied by the archivist in the Description field.
Captions that describe a photograph of an artwork are not included to prevent confusion in searching. A document with all of the original captions from the exhibition and collection is attached.
One addtional series is included in the collection, the photographs in the timeline from the Dallas Museum for Contemporary Arts [DMCA]. In the exhibition, the DMCA photographs were included with the 1960s. This series is smaller than the others and is arranged differently. There is the section of item-based folders of photos which are primarily people and event photos. Other photos are grouped topically; this was to ensure that photos of like subjects were filed together instead of across mulitple item-based folders for more logical access.

Reprocessed Collection
Processing Information
Collection was reprocessed to follow the order of the timeline label by Hillary Bober, completed 30 September 2016.
Photographs were collected and captions were written by Natalie "Schatzie" Lee. As there was no museum archives at the time of the exhibition, all photos collected by Lee during her research were housed in decade-based boxes. Those photographs used or considered for use in the timeline exhibition had captions written. Photographs housed in boxes with the timeline photos but not having captions were removed from the timeline photograph collection during reprocessing for filing with other topic-based photograph collections.
Additional description/notes were added for DACS compliance and ArchivesSpace local usage guidelines in 2021.
