Biographical / Historical

Stephen Lapthisophon was born in Elkins, West Virginia in 1956, grew up in Houston, and currently lives and works in Dallas, Texas (2017). He received a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1979, and also studied Comparative Literature and Theory at Northwestern University from 1986-1989. He exhibited widely in the Chicago area with solo and group exhibitions; plays, performances and readings; publications; and as visiting artist and lecturer.

Lapthisophon first visited Dallas in 2002 for an artist residency at South Side on Lamar and would relocate to Dallas permanently in 2007. Lapthisophon was appointed senior lecturer in art and art history at the University of Texas at Arlington in 2008.

There are a few subjects that have multiple folders: curated exhibitions and exhibitions are arranged by date within the group; library and lecture/performance are arranged alphabetically by title; gallery ephemera is sorted by location, then alphabetically within location.
