This collection consists of materials from Karen Erxleben Weiner related to her work as a founding member of Dallas Artists Research and Exhibition (DARE) which became The McKinney Avenue Contemporary (The MAC), manager of University of Texas at Dallas SouthSide Artist Residency Program, and committee work on the 1990 and 1992 DMA Beaux Arts Balls.

Biographical / Historical

Karen Erxleben Weiner, founder and director of The Reading Room Dallas which presents monthly exhibitions/programs that explore the intersection of text and image. Founding member of Dallas Artists Research and Exhibition which became The McKinney Avenue Contemporary. Manager of University of Texas at Dallas South Side Artist Residency Program which became Centraltrak. Original staff member of Dallas City Arts Program which became the Office of Cultural Affairs. As a media based artist, exhibited at 500X Gallery, Arlington Museum of Art, Women & Their Work/Austin, University of Texas at Dallas.

Gift solicited by Leigh Arnold, September 2012.

The collection was acquired by the DMA Archives as part of the DallasSITES (history of contemporary art in Dallas, 1963-present) research project (2011-2013).

Accrual of Beaux Arts Ball material; received August 2015; processed February 2017.

Accrual received from Karen Weiner in Summer 2022 with the bulk of the accrual related to DARE; accrual weeded and boxed by Hillary Bober on 31 August 2022. Description added to collection record by Hillary Bober on 11 May 2023.
