Indonesian Photography Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of ten photographs depicting indigenous villages in Indonesia. The majority of the photographs are of village residents in indigenous dress, though village architecture also is prominent in some of the photographs. Dates of creation are unknown.
Six of the photographs are mounted reproductions used in DMA exhibitions of the Indonesian textile collection. The remaining four images are oversize black & white photographic prints. All images may have been used for exhibition, research or publication.
Of the ten images: four depict groups of people in their village; two are group studio portraits of people in formal dress and fine textiles; two are individuals with prominent headdress; one depicts traditional backstrap weaving of a textile; and one image of a woman with her village in the background.
Eight of the photographs are unidentified; though two are prints from the Royal Tropical Institute in The Netherlands.
