Zonne Print Scrapbook
Scope and Contents
The scrapbook, complied by Mrs. A.E. Zonne [Ary Edmond] / Louise Cole Zonne, contains primarily newspaper clippings regarding etchings, lithographs, and other types of prints from newspapers in Chicago, Minneapolis, Dallas, and New York. Clippings date from 1928 to 1940 and document Mrs. Zonne's print collecting, her move to Dallas from Minneapolis in 1934, and the donation and exhibitions of her prints at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts from 1935 to 1940.
Included with the scrapbook are two small books of verse, Holiday Greetings and Whims, both signed by the author, Bertha Jaques. Jaques was a personal friend of Mrs. Zonne's and a leading authority on etchings.

Biographical / Historical
Mrs. Zonne began collecting prints in 1923 when she sought art for her husband's office. During the next two decades she assembled a collection of approximately 300 prints by artists such as Matisse, Dufy, Daumier, and Piranesi. She began donating prints to the Museum in 1935, with major donations following in 1940, 1942, 1959 and 1960. The Museum hosted several exhibitions of the Dallas Print Society starting in 1938, and these shows are documented in the scrapbook, along with acquisitions of prints by Mrs. Zonne that later became part of the Museum's collection, and the establishment of the Junior League Print Fund for the Museum in 1936. The scrapbook also contains clippings on Lloyd Rollins' hiring as Director of the Museum in 1934, Allie Tennant and her sculpture Tejas Warrior, and the Texas Centennial Exposition Exhibition held at the new DMFA in 1936.
Mrs. Zonne organized the Dallas Print and Drawing Collector's Society in 1935 and served as the organization's first president. The Society changed its name in 1936 to the Dallas Print Society.
