The Teaching series (1934-1980s) includes Maples' teaching certificates, newspaper clippings and correspondence relating to her teaching positions and career advancement, resume information, and recommendations for promotion. Maples' teaching positions at the Dallas Independent School District, the Fannin School, the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts School, and Southern Methodist University are documented in the series.

Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series: The Scrapbooks series (1925-1980s) includes almost a dozen scrapbooks compiled by Barbara Maples during her lifetime. These bound and unbound albums document Maples' life from middle school through adulthood, chronicling her early education and her art and teaching career, in addition to trips and vacations to Mexico, Washington, D.C., New York, New Mexico, and Maples' work as a teacher at the Cimarroncita Camp. Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

The Sketchbooks and Works of Art series (mostly undated, bulk 1930s-1940s) includes bound sketchbooks of Barbara Maples and Lucille Jeffries, in addition to numerous loose works of art, primarily sketches, watercolors, and prints. Many of the sketches were found loose in scrapbooks and removed upon processing. Some sketches seem to have been created by Maples in conjunction with courses she completed for her art degree. Subjects include landscapes, people, the human body, and Mexico.

Dates: 1853 - 1997; Majority of material found within 1930-1980 [1940-1960]

Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series: The Correspondence series (1853-1997) consists primarily of personal correspondence received by Barbara Maples, and also includes some correspondence sent by Maples to her mother, Lucile. Much of the correspondence consists of handmade cards sent to Maples by local artists.
